We are thrilled to share the news that that The Rosemary Appeal has achieved its target, by raising £5.5m for the Greenham Trust Wing at the West Berkshire Community Hospital. The Appeal is now closed. Thank you to everyone in the community who helped us to reach this milestone.
Supporters made several large donations, including the Greenham Trust who enabled match funding through The Good Exchange - a vital partner to the appeal over the last few years. We would also like to thank local businesses that got behind the appeal and dedicated their time and resources to show their support. Some highlights included the MAXX murder mystery, Frontier and SOYL taking on the Tough Mudder and the Jones Robinson charity rounders tournament.
Local people identified that there was a real need for this type of facility in the area and championed the appeal. Truly difficult challenges were taken on, including the 24-hour 3 Peaks Challenge, cycling the length of France and running 1500 miles in a year. In addition to physical challenges, the community got creative by designing calendars, hand crafting Christmas cards and putting on carol concerts for us all to enjoy. It has truly been a delight to watch the community come together, challenge themselves and share their talents and experiences to make life easier for those battling life-limiting diseases.
Because of the hard work of fundraisers and the support we have received from the local community, local people are now benefitting from enhanced care that is closer to their own homes. The Enborne Unit for renal dialysis and the Rosemary Centre for cancer and other therapies, advice and support are fully up-and-running, as is the CT scanner.
The two charities that led The Rosemary Appeal, Newbury & Thatcham Hospital Building Trust and Newbury Cancer Care, will now concentrate on developing new facilities in the hospital and in the community. Newbury & Thatcham Hospital Building Trust is now organising the installation of two MRI scanners, for the benefit of patients in West Berkshire. Newbury Cancer Care is creating additional facilities, therapies and support services that will be provided from the Rosemary Centre and in the community.
Several organisations are still raising funds for The Rosemary Appeal and money raised will be ring fenced for use supporting the Rosemary Centre and Enborne Unit. Any donations to the Rosemary Centre will now be managed by Newbury Cancer Care as the parent charity, and will be used the develop services in the Rosemary Centre. The office for Newbury Cancer Care is based in the Rosemary Centre and is perfectly placed to respond to queries and requests for support from the community.
If you have any questions about the closing of the appeal or would like further information, you can visit www.newburycancercare.org.uk or telephone 01635 31542.
We would like to sincerely thank the people who dedicated their time to fundraising and everyone who donated to the appeal. Congratulations to you, the community, for this fantastic achievement.
